what was it

This month's What Was It? Wednesday entry is a distinctive themed fast food restaurant building. Now a chicken finger restaurant, it used to offer food from a different part of the planet. Here's another angle:

what was it

Imagine the sound of the waves crashing as you picture this building along a coastal village, as the chain's themed restaurants of the '80's and '90's suggested. Still not sure?

torchys tacos

On a recent trip to Dallas, a friend took me to try a local fast food taco joint, Torchy's Tacos. Torchy's is a small fast food chain of about 30 stores and started life out of a food truck. They specialize in elaborate, gourmet tacos with far flung names like "The Republican" and "Mr. Pink." They're even bold enough to call a scrambled egg taco the "Dirty Sanchez." Yeah, they're kooky like that.

carls jr real deal

The insanity that is Carl's Jr. menu prices led me to try out the advertised $4 Real Deal. This is what we at Fast Food Source refer to not as a combo but rather a "bundle". The Wendy's 4 for $4 and the Taco Bell Big Boxes are other examples, and you can read those reviews here. A bundle is like a combo, but typically puts two or more entree items together for a fixed, flat price. In the case of Carl's Jr.'s Real Deal, that's a Double Cheeseburger, a Spicy Chicken Sandwich, a small order of fries and a small drink. How was it? Filling, but bready. Read on.

coupons

Let's take a quick look at the way Carl's Jr. coupons have evolved over the course of 2016. Recall that at the beginning of last year I was lamenting the fact that these coupons had gone from 2-for-1 deals to a simple $1 off or throwing in a free side and drink instead of a second sandwich. Well, the trend continues.

mcdonalds grand mac

They advertise the Grand Mac as requiring two hands and that was truth in advertising. The latest in the new Mac trifecta (along with the regular Big Mac and new Mac Jr. sandwiches) is nothing short of gigantic. But it's not so much big in height as in diameter, and that is where I think it's an improvement over previous experiments at adding meat to the Big Mac.
