mcdonalds montreal le grand angus

Last year, I reviewed the 1/3 pound Angus Burger at McDonald's in Montreal. Going back recently I found they are now advertising Le Grand Angus, which is advertised in English on the mcdonalds.ca web site as the Mighty Angus. Not sure I like that name. Nevertheless, I took the latest model for a test drive.

Last year's Angus was a third pound patty, lettuce, tomato, cheese, fried onions, and BBQ sauce on a sesame seed bun. This year, Le Grand Angus offers what appears to be a third pound patty (more on this in a bit), bacon pieces, lettuce, tomato, cheese, grilled onions, on a sesame and poppy seed bun. There was also a "smoky Angus sauce" that was a sort of cross between a BBQ and Special sauce. Tangy, smoky, and right for this burger.

About the patty. I cannot find any information on the size of the patty in this burger. On the mcdonalds.ca website, there is no mention of the size on the promotional page. Clicking over to the Nutrition Centre, I expected to see the portion size for the patty spelled out but only saw the serving size which appears to be for the entire sandwich. At 291 grams, the entire sandwich weighs in at about .6 pounds. A Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese weighs 276 grams. I doubt that Le Grand Angus is a half pound burger, so my guess is a third, with the rest of the weight in toppings. Also, I did find a mention online of this sandwich being a third pound, but it wasn't any kind of official McDonald's side and you can't always believe what you read. Still, it makes sense that it'd be a third pound so let's go with that.

Flavor-wise, I liked the combination of toppings. The bacon pieces seemed strange when you are used to a full slice. Nevertheless, it was tasty. The sauce, as mentioned before, was also quite pleasing and balanced out the savory and salty ingredients.

Overall, I recommend trying this burger if you encounter it during your travels. I've noticed it is also offered in other countries so you might see it more than you realize, just not in the States any time soon.
