Here's a showdown of two big fast food chicken sandwiches from Carl's Jr: The Big Chicken Fillet Sandwich and the Chicken Club Sandwich.

Right off the bat, you can tell that the Big Chicken Fillet dwarfs the Chicken Club in sheer size. Arriving in the big promotional box, you know you're in for some serious eating before you even raise the lid. I'm not sure why the cooks bothered sticking a "chicken" sticker on this box considering there is a punch out for the Big Chicken already pre-printed. But I digress.

Unwrapped, you can see that the Big Chicken Fillet is bigger. Substantially bigger. This is a fried chicken breast with lettuce, tomato and mayo on a fresh baked bun. It tastes like a fried chicken breast sandwich would taste with mayo. The chicken breast is thick and tasty, but the overall sandwich is a bit boring. In this way, its size works against it as there's simply not enough going on to keep such a big sandwich interesting until the last bite.

Many of you already know my particular passion for the Charbroiled Chicken Club. It is the perfect fast food chicken sandwich, so I'm obviously biased. But, objectively, let's look at the ingredients: a charbroiled (not fried) chicken breast, two strips of bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on a "Honey Wheat" bun. I sub out BBQ instead of mayo which saves me about 70 calories off the figures below. Plus bbq sauce tastes better on chicken than mayo.

Nutritionally, here is how they compare:

Weight (g) Calories Fat (g) Sat. Fat (g) Cholesterol (mg) Sodium (mg)
Big Chicken 300 680 35 6 75 1360
Chicken Club 269 600 29 8 100 1450

As you might expect, the bigger sandwich is higher in weight, calories and overall fat. But the addition of bacon and cheese make the Chicken Club higher in saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium.

I'll admit, I'm still partial to the Chicken Club. But if you want a bit more and the smaller chicken breast of the Club simply doesn't satisfy you, give the Big Chicken Fillet a try.
