The Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger (or as I call it, the WBC) is a staple for me. Super straightforward in its design, the sandwich is always satisfying and strikes the perfect balance in the meat-to-condiment ratio of 0.9:1, if you count Bacon as a condiment like I do. A single beef patty, two onion rings, cheese, bacon, and bbq sauce on a sesame seed bun.
The Arby's Chicken Bacon Swiss sandwich is a fast food item that's been on the menu for decades. I can remember eating this sandwich back in the '90's and enjoying the fact that they make honey mustard a standard topping instead of the ubiquitous mayo at other chains.
The sandwich is simple, honey mustard, shredded lettuce, and tomato on the bottom; bacon, Swiss cheese, and more honey mustard on the top, all surrounding a crispy chicken breast.
Del Taco always offers some special perks if you purchase their gift cards. This season's crop of fast food freebies is noteworthy in that they have a Cyber Monday deal that doubles their standard offer:
In Store Gift Card Purchases
Online Gift Card Purchases
Cyber Monday ONLINE ONLY Deal (11/30/15): During this 24 hour period, guests will receive double rewards:
The value statements above come from deltacogiftcards.com, where you go to make these online purchases. Eight free combo meals, a $52 value in addition to the $100 gift card value is like true free money. Check it out!
EDIT: I just received an email ad for the gift cards and it should be noted that the free food coupons are only good through 2/29/16. So keep that in mind - especially if you buy the Cyber Monday $100 card and have to burn through eight combo meals in the next three months.
I love the Grilled Chicken Taco at Del Taco. Formerly called the Chicken Soft Taco, that little gem is a delight largely due to its "savory secret sauce." This week, I thought I'd compare it side-by-side with another mini chicken taco: the Salsa Fresca Chicken Taco. We've previously reviewed the Salsa Fresca Chicken Taco, but here's how the new guy stacks up against my old standby.
I'll officially call it. 2015 is the year fast food menu item names have become the longest ever. There is a definite trend in the industry toward descriptive names. Case in point, one of the newest entrants in Arby's popular Market Fresh Sandwich lineup: The Roast Turkey Ranch & Bacon Sandwich. No doubt about it, that is a very descriptive name. But it is long enough that they seem to have had to eschew their Market Fresh moniker for fear of having food titles that would run all the way across the menu board! Imagine: "Market Fresh Turkey Ranch & Bacon Sandwich." By the time you are finished saying that you've used up your lunch hour. Arby's even winks at the long name in the description on their website:
"The Roast Turkey Ranch & Bacon comes with roast turkey, peppercorn ranch sauce and thick-cut pepper bacon. It also has Cheddar cheese and is sandwiched between two slices of honey wheat bread. We tried adding those ingredients to the name, but the Roast Turkey Ranch & Bacon on honey wheat bread is a ridiculous name for a sandwich."
There's a rumor spreading across the interwebs about Burger King's latest sandwich. What rumor? We'll get to that in a minute. But first, what is a "Halloween Whopper"? Burger King is getting into the spirit of my favorite holiday nice and early with this interesting fast food menu item. First, they started with the guts of a basic Whopper (beef patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, ketchup, onion) and added A-1 Steak Sauce. Then they took the bun and, through some freaky mad science experiment, turned it BLACK. The bun is really really dark.
The Halloween Whopper arrives in a fun "mummy" wrapper as you can see below. Clever. The taste is distinctly Whopper, except for the addition of the A-1, which I found to be a distraction. I guess Burger King thought just putting a black bun on a regular Whopper wouldn't be unique enough so they felt the need to plus it up. Me, I would've been happy just given the choice between black bun or regular. The A-1 sauce, everyone knows, is salty. Not necessary on a fast food hamburger. In fact, it is so salty it ups the sodium count 21% from 1260mg to 1530mg. Cholesterol is also rated higher at 105mg vs 85mg. Interestingly, the Halloween Whopper (with cheese) has 20 fewer calories than the regular Whopper with Cheese. Saturated fat on both sandwiches is the same at 15g.
